Blok / Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and shared when you use Blok's neighborhood community, messaging, location, and optional purchase features.
At a glance
- We use account, profile, community, content, location, purchase, device, and support information to operate Blok.
- Location and photo access are requested through your device permissions. You can deny or revoke them, although some features may not work without them.
- Apple processes App Store payments. We receive purchase and transaction information needed to verify benefits, not your full card number.
- We use service providers for hosting, messaging, notifications, analytics, attribution, diagnostics, and payment verification.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to the Blok iOS app and related support services. It does not apply to websites, apps, or services controlled by other companies, including Apple, even when you reach them from Blok.
In this Policy, “Blok,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the provider of the Blok app and service. “Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or can reasonably be linked to an individual.
2. Information we collect
Account and authentication information
We collect information needed to create, authenticate, secure, and administer your account. Depending on the sign-in method, this may include your email address, account identifier, authentication tokens, Apple user identifier, session information, and security or fraud-prevention records.
Profile and community information
We collect the information you provide for your profile and community experience, such as your name, age or age-related information, gender, bio, interests, occupation, education, height, profile photos, ZIP code or location-derived community, preferences, and onboarding state.
Content and interactions
We collect content you submit or exchange through Blok, including posts, comments, reactions, saved items, help requests, arrangements, messages, photos, reports, blocks, and related timestamps and metadata. Messages are not promised to be end-to-end encrypted.
Location information
With your permission, we may obtain device location to determine a ZIP code or nearby community. We may process coordinates and the resulting ZIP code or location-derived area. If you deny location access or a location result is unavailable, you may enter or search for a ZIP code manually.
Purchase and subscription information
When you buy credits or Neighbor Pass through the App Store, Apple processes the payment. We may receive or process product identifiers, transaction identifiers, purchase status, receipt or verification data, subscription status and period, credit balance, credit usage, and fraud-prevention information. We do not receive your full payment card number or Apple Account password.
Device, network, and usage information
We may collect device and app information, operating-system and app versions, language and region, IP address, approximate location derived from network information, identifiers, push tokens, app events, screen or interaction events, diagnostics, and server logs. With any required permission, attribution and analytics providers may process device or advertising identifiers.
Support communications
If you contact us, we collect the information you provide in your message, such as your contact details, account information, attachments, and the content needed to investigate and respond.
3. Device permissions
- Location: requested when Blok needs a location or ZIP code to show the relevant local community. You can use manual ZIP entry when available if you deny access.
- Camera: requested when you take a photo inside Blok for your profile or a post. The captured photo is used only for the feature you chose.
- Photos: requested when you choose a profile or post photo from your library. We upload the photo you select to provide the feature.
- Notifications: requested so Blok can send account, message, or service notifications. You can change notification settings in the app or system Settings.
- Tracking: if Blok requests tracking permission, you can allow or deny it through the Apple system prompt. Denial does not prevent you from using the core app.
You can review or revoke permissions in iOS Settings. Some features may stop working or become less convenient when permission is denied or revoked.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and authenticate accounts and maintain secure sessions.
- Provide profiles, communities, feeds, messaging, arrangements, saved items, reports, blocks, and location-based setup.
- Process, verify, restore, and administer credits, subscriptions, balances, entitlements, and purchase records.
- Send transactional, security, support, and notification messages you request or that are needed for the service.
- Moderate content, investigate abuse, enforce our Terms, prevent fraud, protect users, and maintain security.
- Understand feature performance, diagnose failures, improve the product, and measure attribution and marketing effectiveness where permitted.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use message content to train third-party public artificial-intelligence models.
5. Legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of the following: performance of a contract with you; your consent; compliance with legal obligations; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving Blok; and establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.
Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal or processing based on another lawful basis.
6. How we share information
We may share personal information in the following circumstances:
- Other users: your profile, posts, comments, listings, and messages are shown or delivered as part of the feature you use. Report and block information may be used to protect users.
- Service providers: companies supporting cloud hosting, authentication, messaging, notifications, image storage, analytics and attribution, diagnostics, fraud prevention, and payment verification. They process information for us under written agreements that oblige them to keep the information confidential, use it only for the tasks we assigned, and protect it with safeguards equal to those in this Policy.
- Apple: to complete App Store purchases, verify transactions, restore purchases, manage subscriptions, and provide related services.
- Legal and safety: when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, necessary to respond to a lawful request, or necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or prevent fraud or abuse.
- Business transactions: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice requirements.
Our service providers may include Apple and third-party providers for analytics and attribution, together with cloud, messaging, notification, and security providers. The providers we use may change as Blok evolves.
7. Payments and subscriptions
Apple processes App Store payments and manages subscription billing. Blok verifies transactions and uses the resulting records to grant credits or Neighbor Pass benefits, maintain balances, restore purchases, prevent fraud, and provide support.
Your use of Apple's payment services is also subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy. You can manage or cancel Apple subscriptions in your Apple Account. Deleting Blok or your Blok account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription.
8. Cookies and tracking technologies
Blok is a native application and does not use browser cookies for the in-app experience. We and our providers may use software development kits, device identifiers, app-event records, server logs, and similar technologies for authentication, security, analytics, attribution, diagnostics, notifications, and purchase verification.
Where required, we request permission before accessing the advertising identifier or engaging in tracking across companies' apps or websites. You can control tracking permission in iOS Settings. Some analytics used for security, fraud prevention, or basic service operation may continue as permitted by law.
9. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Blok, maintain your account, meet contractual and legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce agreements, and protect safety and security.
Retention periods vary by data type. For example, account and profile information is generally retained while the account remains active; support records may be retained for a reasonable period after a request is resolved; and transaction, security, abuse, or legal records may be retained longer where required. When information is no longer needed, we delete it, de-identify it, or securely isolate it until deletion is possible.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Protect your device and account, use current software, and avoid sharing sensitive information through profiles, posts, or messages. Notify us promptly if you believe your account or information has been compromised.
11. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, obtain a copy of, restrict, or object to the processing of personal information; withdraw consent; appeal a decision; or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You may also request that we not send promotional communications.
California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including rights to know, delete, correct, and limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising privacy rights. We do not sell personal information as defined by applicable law.
Send a request to blokiosfeedback@uponblok.com. We may need to verify your identity or account before fulfilling a request. Authorised agents may submit requests where permitted by law.
12. Account and data deletion
You can delete your Blok account through the in-app account controls. After confirmation, we will delete or de-identify account data as described in this Policy and applicable law. Some information may be retained for a limited period where necessary for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or the protection of others.
Deleting your Blok account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel the subscription through your Apple Account. Information already shared with another user or outside Blok may remain with that recipient.
13. Children's privacy
Blok is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Blok, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
14. International processing
The Service is offered to users located in the United States, and information is stored and processed in the United States. Providers that operate independently of Blok (such as Apple) process information under their own policies.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy as Blok or applicable law changes. We will post the revised version and update the effective date. Where changes are material, we may provide additional notice in the app or by another reasonable method and request consent where required.
